Looking for your ultimate hipster guide to everything artsy? Look no further. We've rounded up a quick and easy guide to 8 artsy activities in Sydney that you can easily check out and have fun with.

It's a long weekend and you're feeling like it's been a while since you've done something a little different - something to get your mind off work and into a mode of mellow. If that sounds anything like you, then you're gonna like what I'm about to share with you.

Activities for the Artsy Soul

1. Newtown + Street photography

If you know anything about Newtown, you’ll know that Newtown and street photography go hand in hand. Newtown has a great mix of people and diversity that this tour will give you the chance to capture this very special vibe. If you want to find out about the ins-and-outs of how to take great street shots, you won’t want to miss out on this Street Photography Tour. Trust me, it’s sure to satisfy your inner hipster!

2. Cupcake Decoration

cupcake decoration If you love baking and have been thinking about mastering your cupcake decoration skills, then I have the answer for you. Spend a day in this bakery learning about how best to make the prettiest and fanciest cupcake toppings! And best of all, you get to have your cakes and eat it too. There’s a special Halloween Spooky Cupcakes session happening this Saturday! Don’t say I didn't tell you.

3. Pottery class

If you’re game to try something different, then maybe this pottery class will take your fancy. Have you thought about what it’s actually like to try your hand at throwing (not literally), trimming, and glazing? Or if you even wanted to know what those terms really mean in the world of pottery? After one of these sessions, I bet you’ll be looking just like the pros in movies.

4. Wedding photography

wedding I’m not kidding. Your hipster profile isn’t complete if you’re not signing up for a photography workshop that’s JUST for weddings. When I was younger I always fantasised about working in a wedding planning company – it always seemed as though the employees were the happiest there. Perhaps this workshop will let me relive that. Even if you’re not potentially signing up to become a professional wedding photographer, now you’ll have everything you need to know about taking the sleekest shots at your friend’s next wedding – including the best uses of light, colour, composition and framing.

5. Kayaking

We all know that the die-hard artsy soul needs their time to zen out, too. What better way to do so than in the serene environment of the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park? Explore the estuary on your own self-guided Kayak Tour as you immerse yourself in the environment and forget the rest of the world for a moment… Bliss.

6. Chippendale & Redfern Arts and Food Tour

Chippendale is my favourite suburb in Sydney, simply because there's always so much happening (and admittedly because it's home to one of my favourite art galleries - the White Rabbit). If you, like me, love your food as much as you love the arts, then this one is perfect. This arts and food tour takes you through the Inner West, giving you a first-hand informative experience on the contemporary art galleries and the best gelateria in the area. Can’t say no, can you?

7. Night photography

night photography The day's not complete for the hipster without a session of night photography, where you're promised postcard quality images... Think a ridiculous dose of bokeh and bright lights along the harbour, the moody character filled streets of the Rocks, and all the hidden corners of the city at night. After this, you'll be head over heels in love with night photography and all that you can do with it on your camera.

8. Beer tour

We've all heard of the saying that Arts students write their best essays with a glass of beer or wine in hand. As a former Arts student, I can tell you that I'm pretty guilty of that. But it has also led to some of my most inspirational-driven pieces of writing. This Hipsters and Hops Brewery Tour is your cue to mellow out. If a trip to three great craft breweries and two craft beer pubs doesn't get you in the mood, then I don't know what will.

Hey sister, soul sister!

So go on, get your artsy vibes flowing. Try out some of these activities and let me know if there are other ones you love to do to spark your inspiration, or simply to indulge in your artsy side! For more activities that you can do with your BFF, read this blog. I promise you'll get a good laugh.
